Stitch in time

Isn't this fabric fabulous!  I don't know what it is about these two colours, teal and pink, that really attracts me.  I love them.

The fabric is full of pictures of little bits and pieces of vintage sewing things - buttons, scissors, thread, pin cushions and lovely ladies.  I think the name of the fabric is Stitch In Time Montage.  I have an idea of what I'm going to make with it.

Love how these DMC threads just go perfectly with the fabric.  Also treated myself to a new pair of embroidery scissors - you can never have too many of those!  Have a great week!

Pretty vintage linen

I think this is the prettiest vintage linen I have in my collection.

It is a set of three little handkerchiefs with beautiful cut-work and delicate embroidery.

They are wonderfully presented in a box showing a mountain scene presumably Switzerland since that is where they were made.  Another lable reads "Sunlawn"

So delicate and pretty.  I love them.

Pretty Embroidered Cloth

I found this lovely embroidered tray cloth in a charity shop recently.  To be honest, I found it a few weeks ago, but somehow, it always ended up at the bottom of the ironing pile!  Now, how did that happen?!

Beautiful sewn - the colours are still so bright.

I'm finding it more and more difficult to find pretty things at charity shops, perhaps people are a bit more careful what they give away these days!

Tablecloth With A Tale To Tell

I have a confession to make, I've not been in a charity shop for over a month!  This summer has just passed in a flash!  Where did August go?

I had totally forgotten about this pretty embroidered tablecloth which I found in July.  (I will admit that it had been languishing at the bottom of the ironing pile for that time - shocking!!!!!)

It is huge - 50x50 inches and the embroidery is as bright as the day it was sewn.  Intriguingly, there's a single initial in just one corner.  How strange is that?

I've written a wee piece about why that might be.

Winnie finished the last stitch of her initial on the tablecloth and decided she had had enough for one evening.  She had nearly completed it anyway - just Bert's initial to add in the opposite corner, she'd do that tomorrow.  She tried not to think of what he would be doing at that moment - on his last home leave he wouldn't say much about the war, just wanted to know how the arrangements for their wedding were coming along.  That was her Bert - always more interested in others than himself.
She was so looking forward to their wedding day in just three months time.  Her bottom drawer was already full to overflowing with all the bits and pieces they would be needing to set up home together.  Before putting the cloth away, she looked again at the three empty corners and blushed to think that perhaps, one day, she and Bert might have a little family whose initials would fill those other corners, perhaps even  the edges too.  Carefully she wrapped the cloth in tissue and placed it in her sewing box.

The telegram arrived the next day.

Vintage Dorcas Pillow Cases

Hi girls!  Good to be back in blogland after my holidays!
Thought I would start with a lovely little charity shop find - these lovely vintage Dorcas pillow cases still in their original wrap and box.

So pretty!

Lovely embroidery - lets see it in vivid colours!

An added bonus was this little engagement gift card which was tucked away inside.

What a pity such a lovely gift was never used - but then again - I can remember a few gifts I received for my engagement and wedding which, at the time I thought were so old fashioned and put in the back of the cupboard!  How things change ... or stay the same????

Vintage Embroidered Tray Cloth

I found some fabulous vintage embroidered pieces in a charity shop at the weekend.  One is still soaking, but this one is washed and ready to show.  (Why is it that you think something is well ironed till you take a photo of it?!)

It is a pretty little vintage embroidered tray cloth.

I love the soft pastel colours and the pretty edging.  The embroidery is beautifully worked.

It is destined to go on my dressing table - should look lovely.

Hope you found some bargains this weekend.

Vintage Swiss Handkerchiefs

Found these lovely vintage boxed handkerchiefs at a church fete yesterday.

They are so pretty and not a mark on them.  A bargain price too.

Even the box is pretty.

It was a beautiful day so hubby and I took the ferry across the Clyde to Dunoon.

Hope you had some good finds this weekend.  Got more bits and pieces to show you tomorrow.

Vintage Linen Charity Shop Finds

Not just one lucky charity shop find, but two!

The first was a small vintage embroidered tablecloth.  The colours are still lovely and vibrant.

Very pretty florals.

The second is larger and the colours are more muted and faded, but still in wonderful condition.

That's all I've found in the last two weeks!!!!!  Saw a Royal Vale tea set in a charity shop - nice, but nothing out of the ordinary - priced at £30, could hardly believe my eyes, especially as nothing else in the entire shop was priced at more than £5!  In another charity shop I saw a tiny little plastic basket with unmatched pieces of china - 75p each, but there was no room on the shelf to take them out and have a look at them - so I'm guessing it won't be long until they are all chipped because people are having to dig to the bottom of the tub to see what's there!  Grrrrr .....!

Enough moans - I'll just enjoy my lovely linen.

Greetings From Australia

No, don't worry, I haven't emigrated!  Its just the message on this cute little embroidered cloth.  Look at the little koala - sweet.  Wonder who sent it over from Australia?  I found these linens in a local charity shop.

Meant to blog about these pretties ages ago, but they've been languishing at the bottom of the ironing pile for weeks a few days.

Such lovely vintage embroidery - each flower is a different colour and the border is so pretty.

Makes a change from cups and saucers, eh?

Pretty Vintage Linen

Got this pretty vintage linen set in a local charity shop.

The embroidered flowers are still lovely and vivid.

Goes well with this vintage floral china.

A sight to gladden my heart!
Have a wonderful weekend.

Another Charity Shop Embroidery!

I had another lucky find in one of Greenock's charity shops.

Its a gorgeous little vintage tablecloth, about 30 inches square.  The embroidery is beautifully finished and the colours are so vibrant.

It was very grubby and dirty, but I had a feeling that a good soak and wash would make it good as new and for 20 pence, I was hardly going to lose out!  Got a very funny look from the lady behind the counter when I handed over my 20p!

I've been really lucky with fabric finds recently - hope it lasts!
