Feared by the bad, loved by the good ...

I came across this vintage Ladybird book - The Ambush - A Ladybird Robin Hood Adventure.

Fabulous illustrations by John Kenney and story by Max Kester.

Being of vintage age, the mere mention of Robin Hood sets the theme tune from the 1950s Adventures of Robin Hood TV show running through my head -

Robin Hood, Robin Hood riding through the glen.
Robin Hood, Robin Hood with his band of men.
Feared by the bad, loved by the good,
Robin Hood, Robin Hood, Robin Hood.

Does anyone else remember it?  Richard Greene played the hero, Robin Hood.

Here's a reminder of the show's theme on You Tube.  Enjoy!

Patterns from the 50s

These vintage knitting patterns are two I inherited from my Mum.  She was always knitting.

So cute!  They probably date back to the 50s or early 60s.

I love the little knitted sailor's collar on this sweater.

This pattern has obviously been well used.  My brother or myself must have had one of these knitted jumpers.  I didn't have a shop-bought jumper till I went to secondary school!

Wish I had the patience to knit these!  Tea cosies are about all I can manage.

Warning - Nostalgia Overload!

Well, I suppose it will only be a nostalgia overload to those, like me, of a certain age!  Shortbread & Ginger fans - bear with me!

What a dresser!!!!!  How gorgeous is this wonderful crockery filled dresser.

What about this living room from the 50s - just reminds me so much of my Granny's house!  Is that why I felt that I wanted to go in, curl up on the sofa and sleep - I'd have to shift that cat out of the way first?  (Or was that down to the late night and too much wine the night before?)  Seriously - I wanted to live here.  If I thought I had only hours to live I'd want to spend them in this room - I even feel the tears starting just thinking about it - I must be seriously ... nostalgia prone (or something)!

All these photographs were taken at the Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore.  They have lots of houses from different eras which have been brought and rebuilt on this site, complete with contents.  It would take me weeks to describe all the wonderful things that they have here (look out for a few more blog posts over the next few weeks).  Their attention to detail is amazing!  I loved this place so much.  I almost wore out my camera!

The Museum is set out over a couple of miles so there's a lot of walking, although they have a transport for those less able.  I know I often say this, but for fellow vintage fans - this really is the place to visit if you are ever in the area.

PS - Am I the only one who thinks that our new little Princess looks like the Queen?

Knit Your Own - Cocktail Dress!

I love this photograph from an old Needlewoman magazine - it somehow encapsulates an era.  Looks a bit like she's been at the gin, though!  Wonder how many "sticky out petticoats" she has on underneath?!  Does anyone remember having to starch their petticoats - I was very little at the time, so my Mum used to do it for me.  Just wore under a dress for special occasions like the Sunday School Christmas party.

Is it me - or does the woman in this advert look a bit manic!  Don't think I'd trust her with a sharp knitting needle!

Love this photo too - shame about the registration number on the scooter!

Thought you might like to see some of these adverts from 1953.

Miracles can happen - with Tokalon powder!

This one has to be my favourite - Prestoband!  Know what I'd do if hubby came home with a gift of plasters ….. !!!!!!!
