Soft, summery squares

Summer crochet granny squares - 22 of them and each one different!

Got a little project in mind for these.  Just using four soft colours with a creamy white as the main colour.

Need a lot more, so better get on with it!

Have a wonderful crafty weekend.

Purple crochet granny squares

Don't you just love looking at the colours of all your crochet yarn?!

I love seeing how all the different colours go together to make one lovely cosy
crochet blanket.

Ok, so it might not be the time of year for crochet blankets, but with the weather we've been having here in Greenock recently, it won't go wrong!

How's the weather in your part of the world?

But will I wear it?

It didn't take me long to crochet this waistcoat.  I wanted it to be blue, and it was a great way to use up lots of little odds and ends of blue yarn that I had "accumulated" over the years.

Added two little pops of red, just for interest.  Enjoyed making it.

I want to wear it, but is it a bit twee?

We'll see if I can build up some courage to wear it!

Carried forward

I had a couple of new crafty starts in March which I haven't yet completed, so hopefully I'll get more done over the next few weeks.

First was my new patriotic Jubilee crochet.  Using slightly darker colours than in my previous Jubilee blanket, but I like it just as much.

Then I started Red Bird Sampler by Brenda Gervais.  I just love the colours in this sampler.  I also love the fact that there's no big border all around it!  (I'm a bit lazy with things like that!)

Then Melisa of Pinker n Punkin Quilting & Stitching showed this prettly little Tulip House on her blog and I just had to start it too!  I love Melisa's patterns - I find them so relaxing to stitch and the finished product is so cheery!  Thank you Melisa!

If you haven't visited Melisa's blog then you really should.  She has lots of lovely free cross stitch patterns and has some wonderful decorating ideas.  Check it out now - Pinker n Punkin Blog.

Cross stitch and crochet

Spent a busy weekend finishing off my new crochet granny square blanket.  Chose pink as my accent colour and I absolutely love it!

Managed to use up a lot of little bits and pieces of yarn that I had in my stash, so that was good too.

Another of my cross stitch fully finishes - Home Stitch Home (click to read about my vintage tea) which was a freebie from Tiny Modernist - you can find it here.  I stitched it during lockdown in April 2020 so it is about time I actually got around to taking it out of the drawer and fully finishing it.

I used this pretty fabric for the back.  I think it matches really well.
Don't forget that you can follow my crafty endeavours on Instagram - here (Scottish Stitcher).

Hope you all had a lovely weekend.

Crochet obsession!

I seem to be a bit obsessed by crochet at the moment.  No sooner had I finished my Jolly Jubilee throw than my hands were itching to do some more crochet.

So I decided to try and use up some of my odds and ends of yarn and start a multi-coloured crochet blanket.

It is a great way of using up the yarn leftover from other projects and makes a lovely, colourful blanket or throw.

All I have to do is decide which yarn I want to be the main outline colour.  But in the meantime this keeps me occupied while I'm watching tv or taking a break from cross stitch.

Jolly Jubilee crochet

I've finished my Jolly Jubilee crochet blanket.  Patriotic colours - red, white and blue - especially for this special occasion.

It measures 32 inches by 28 inches and has a pretty pom pom at each corner.  I love it!

Congratulations to Her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee - 70 years on the throne.  What a wonderful woman!

Looking forward to the festivities in June - got my bunting ready!  Might just have time to crochet another blanket.  Think the next one will have different, darker shades of the patriotic colours.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

Bella and the blanket

Meet Bella - isn't she cute?!

I have had her for ages, but am ashamed to say that I had put here away and forgotten all about her until I was looking for a crochet blanket I wanted to make a bit bigger!

I finished this crochet a while ago, but felt that it was just a bit too small, so I found some matching yarn and added to it.  It now measures 39 inches by 30 inches - just right for a lap blanket.  Love the autunman colours - so does Bella.  Don't you think they match?

It's been a bit of a crochet crazy weekend here at Shortbread Towers!  But I'm delighted to have finished this beauty.  Now back to my cross stitch while listening to Boom Radio - best radio since the wonderful Terry Wogan stopped broadcasting.  If you love music from the 50s, 60s, and 70s then you will adore this station.  Give it a try - at the moment Melody Fair (1969) by the Bee Gees is playing - wonderful!  I've got some recorded episodes of "The Royal" to watch tonight.  It is set in the 1960s.  Didn't watch it first time round but love it now.  (Is it wrong to live in the past?)

We've been warned that there's another storm heading our way, so its nice to cosy up with the things I love and try and ignore the wind outside!  Stay safe and cosy my friends.

Vintage dresser - favourite things

I just love the way my dresser looks right now with all my vintage china and crafted bits and pieces on it.

Sometimes it is difficult to get it just right, but it makes me happy right now.

No doubt as the seasons change, so will the dresser.

I thought I'd make a little video so that I could remember what it looks like in case I make a hash of it next time I change it.  (Yes, a bit of a glass half empty sort of person!)

You can see that video on YouTube here.

Crochet and vintage - lovely!

Here's some squares from a new crochet blanket which I've just started.  Love these colours together.

Fits in with many of the vintage bits and pieces I have on my dresser as well as my Cath Kidston things.

Love these vintage cups and saucers - they are my favourite - for the moment.

This paperweight is very special to me - it was given as a gift many years ago.  I love it.

Hope you are enjoying some new crafty starts for 2022 or just basking in your love for your vintage treasures.
