My Choice Vintage

I like to occasionally change the accent colours in my kitchen, and this time of year is the perfect time to do that. Red is my current choice and I was searching about online to find a pretty tablecloth that would look good in my kitchen. Then quite by chance I was rummaging through my box of vintage linen treasures when I found this gorgeous tablecloth.

Made in Ireland by "My Choice", it was still in its crinkly cellophane cover which fell apart as I lifted it from the box. Some would say that vintage finds should be left as they are, but I would much rather put it to good use - doing what it was designed to do - covering my kitchen table.

I absolutely love it and it fits the table perfectly! (Probably should have ironed it before taking photographs!)

It has been a while since I last blogged and to be honest it has been a very rough couple of months. However if these last few months have taught me anything it is that we, no matter what our age, really need the company of others! Friends and family are so important and vital for our well-being. Getting out and about and making ourselves take up opportunities which present themselves is part of what it means to have a decent quality of life. It is so easy to blog about pretty things and make it sound like life is just perfect and that does serve a purpose, but occasionally it is good to face reality and know that life is not always picture perfect. I'm going to keep blogging about pretty things and crafting - which has kept me going recently. Sometimes it is hard to see the light a the end of the tunnel, but it is there and sometimes, when we get there we realise that it burns brighter than it did before. Keep well, my friends.

Tea at three

I love a nice cup of tea at three o'clock in the afternoon. A bit of a tradition I suppose.

Mostly I just have a mug of tea, but occasionally I'll get out some vintage china and feel a bit posh!

I got out this gorgeous Royal Vale cup and saucer today just to show off my knitted tea cosy. I love the way the purple and light green look together. Matches the china.

Lets not forget the vintage linen - purple flowers and little embroidered corner - perfect.

Vintage linen tray cloths

I decided to venture into my box of vintage linen and find out just how many embroidered vintage tray cloths I had. (I wrote about one just a few days ago - here.)

I was quite surprised at just how many I had - I even ironed them for their photoshoot!

All of these were rescued from charity shops and I paid very little for them. (I'll try and link to my original blog post about each one.)

This one is actually yellow althoug it is not showing up well in photograph!

These are all hand embroidered and I just wonder about the women who sit stitching them and if they were even used. Tray cloths were put on a tray when the hostess was serving her guests tea. I suppose they were also used on tables - so that the fruit bowl or flower vase wouldn't mark the wood.

This one with the hunter makes me think of Downton Abbey shooting parties - the family and their guests being served tea on the moors!

I love the delicacy of this one.

Last but not least is this lovely embroidery - more of a table runner than a tray cloth, but hand embroidered just the same.

Once loved linen

Once upon a time someone embroidered this lovely piece of linen. I'm sure they were very proud of it - just like I am of my stitched pieces today. I'm now the lucky owner of this. Just look at how vibrant the colours are after all this time.
