Knit your man some pants!

Yes, you really could ... if you wanted to!  That is according to this wonderful vintage knitting and crochet magazine "Woolly Comforts".  I think it dates from the early 1930s and was an offshoot of Weldon's Practical Needlework magazine.

Don't they look very scratchy?
If these knitted pants don't appeal, then how about knitting the man in your life some golf gloves!  Just the thing to impress his golfing buddies.

While the knitted garments might not appeal, there are some very glamorous models.

Even the advertisements are lovely.

My favourite picture of all is the cover girl!  She looks as if she might just be wearing knitted pants!

No bigger than a powder-puff!

I came across this old Bestway knitting and crochet leaflet (603).  It has some quaint little bits and pieces to knit and crochet.

How about a bag to save on those 5p plastic ones?

Or some covers for coat hangers - great idea - love the little posies.

Wonder when this pattern dates from.  Does anyone out there have any idea?

Seahorses in the Workbasket

Strange title for a blog post, don't you think?  Well, I was having a browse through an old Workbasket magazine recently.  It is dated April 1977.

Inside was an advertisement for live seahorses!

There was this cute little unused pattern with a lovely little rag doll in it as well as some other patterns that could be sent away for.

There were a another couple of funny ads too.

Lots of patterns for knitting as well as sewing.

I'm sure it was a useful little magazine of its time.

Vintage Vogue

These pictures are FAB!

They are from a vintage Vogue Knitting Pattern booklet dated September 1967.

Some of the patterns are a bit ... well different.  This particular outfit is called the "Bell-Boy Suit"!

Some of the pictures are so amazing!  Love the wool symbol ring.

But for me, this just shouts 60s!  Love it!

The tea cosies are off to their new homes.  Thanks to all who enquired.

Pandora's ........ Breadbin!

I was lucky to be given this (slightly grotty) 70s orange breadbin yesterday - why lucky, I hear you ask!  Well, because it contained "some old patterns and stuff".  I'll admit that I was expecting a couple of 70s and 80s knitting patterns and perhaps a few old magazines.  BUT!!!!!!!

I opened the lid ... and took a sharp intake of breath!!!!  This is what I saw ......

Just lying on the top were two of the most vintagy patterns I have ever had the pleasure to see ... and they are just  what's on top.  I was so excited, I was almost hyperventilating as I forgot to exhale the sharp intake of breath!

I was out all day and got back late so didn't have much time to rummage through the rest.

I awoke early today, as excited as a child on Christmas morning, and if it hadn't been so cold I would have got up there and then to check out what else was in the breadbin!

I've taken some photographs of the two I've looked at so far- this transfer pattern is from Christmas 1912 - one hundred years ago - WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't think there is going to be much work done here today!
Keep tuned in to find out what else I discover in ..... Pandora's Breadbin!!!!!

I'm joining up with Max's second hand link-up over at Blackbird Has Spoken - come and see what everyone else has been finding.
