Back To the Eighties

Here's a bit of a blast from the past - in fact these are from an old Good Housekeeping magazine from the 80s.

Opium perfume - I remember getting some of that for Christmas in the 80s - I was well chuffed, the packaging was pretty and unusual, but the scent was very overpowering!

Floral sofas and shiny black bathrooms- wow!

Very large shoulder pads - love the mustard and black!

This photo, an ad for Alexon, makes me think of Lorraine Chase - did anyone see her in Emmerdale last week - hasn't changed much!

Styles for men -  erm, no!  Good to look back, though, especially for those of us who endured lived through the 80s!

Knit Your Own ..... Wedding Dress!

Seriously!

I found the pattern for this dress in a copy of the magazine Womancraft of March 1980.  I had to double check the date - really, a hand knitted wedding dress in 1980?  Still, I suppose it would come in handy later - you could always rip it out and knit baby things in due course!  (Can you tell I'm a Scot?)

Here's some of the detail.   Anyone want the pattern?  Do you know anyone who wore a knitted wedding dress?

From the same magazine is this recipe for Cheesy Onions - doesn't it sound revolting.  Surely one for Kylie's next retro cook-off!

This magazine was one of the more "modern" items in Pandora's Breadbin!

This has more of an 80s vibe!

Knit Your Own Superman ... (Jumper)

Isn't this so 80s!!!!!!!

Came across this Patons Superman knitting pattern book from the 80s.  The patterns are by Joy Gammon and they are absolutely wonderful!  Who wouldn't want to wear one of these - especially the young man about town!  The wee lad looks as if he likes his jumper, though.

At least Teddy looks good in his!

Picture knits are great for kids, but adults ...??????

Welcome to my new followers!
I've just realised that some of the blogs I read regularly have disappeared from my reading list - have no idea why this has happened!  I will get round to catching up eventually.  Sorry!

You Can Keep the Pink Bathroom!

Found an old magazine - guess the decade ...

Big hair ...  and ... big jewellery ...

Opium perfume ...

Oversized knits ....
Love the caption under the picture (can't even imagine what those words would be)!

It can only be the 80s!  An edition of Good Housekeeping from 1987 - costing £1.

Ladybird books for 85p!

And, best of all ...  pink bathrooms!

Ah, memories ...

Beads & Bits & Bobs

Found my (really) old jewellery box at the back of the cupboard.  At first I thought it was just full of beads from the 80s -

I used to be an Avon lady, so a lot of these will be from Avon.

Lots of beige and brown!

A bit of a nautical theme going on here!

Also found a few odds and ends - two of Mum's brooches.  Mink brooch in the shape of a butterfly - is it pc to wear these now?

I remember Mum wearing this little doggie brooch on a white jacket she used to have.

A Poetry Society medal from 1968 - and to think they are trying to bring back memorising poetry!  I can't even remember which poem I recited to win this (mind you it I had probably just learned to talk as I was still a baby then ... yeah, right)!!!

Last but not least a five shilling coin (a crown) from 1960.

Funny what ends up in the old jewellery box!  Do you have odd bits and pieces in yours?
