Beads & Bits & Bobs

Found my (really) old jewellery box at the back of the cupboard.  At first I thought it was just full of beads from the 80s -

I used to be an Avon lady, so a lot of these will be from Avon.

Lots of beige and brown!

A bit of a nautical theme going on here!

Also found a few odds and ends - two of Mum's brooches.  Mink brooch in the shape of a butterfly - is it pc to wear these now?

I remember Mum wearing this little doggie brooch on a white jacket she used to have.

A Poetry Society medal from 1968 - and to think they are trying to bring back memorising poetry!  I can't even remember which poem I recited to win this (mind you it I had probably just learned to talk as I was still a baby then ... yeah, right)!!!

Last but not least a five shilling coin (a crown) from 1960.

Funny what ends up in the old jewellery box!  Do you have odd bits and pieces in yours?

Love, Liz

Love your childhood jewellery collection. I still have some of mine too. I love the history of jewellery passed down through the family.

I've got sixpence in my jewellery box, not sure why! I had 80's beads like yours the blue ones with the swirls took me back to my white flying suit with cerise belt and beads just like those - tasteful! :0) x
You've gotta LoVe beads! Thank you for following my blog because now I've found yours!

Hi dear Liz, I like vintage all the time. And I like expecially 80s. The colorful beads are wonderful. I have some bead necklaces from 80s and I use them sometimes.. And I want to give you the Liebster Blog Award.. Thank you for your friendship..:))

Just had a quick look in mine - amongst the beads & earrings there are LittleSons first teeth, a 1882 penny and the ankle bands that they put on littleson when he was born!
Aw - how sweet! (I've kept my sons' too!)
Liz
Kiddy teeth in mine too! And random presumed important screws and things, which I now can't throw away.

Not sure I like the mink butterfly, but it's certainly interesting to see!

Hi Liz, I used to be an Avon lady too ... and my Mam had a mink brooch, but it was a swirl with a pearl in the middle. The things you remember, that you thought you had completely forgotten about, looking through everyone's blogs! Love Claire xxx

A jewel box says so much about a girl doesn't it? Mine is packed with all sorts including a very cheap and tarnished bracelet given to me by my first boyfriend, aged 15. There are also 7 of my son's teeth ... I persuaded the tooth fairy to let me keep them! M x

I love your jewellery memories, I have some of my childhood brooches, a sausage dog, and a plastic heart with my name on it (tacky) and some 1970 love beads!

80's jewellery is almost good, hard, currency at the moment - still got all my earrings, beads and bangles, so I need to raise some cash I'll dig them out;)

I think my mum had a mink something brooch... and I love your mum's little doggy brooch; so sweet!

Love the coins you showed - I have some in a sewing basket, of all places.

As for learning poetry in schools - not a bad thing, but will they start rapping children's knuckles again when they get it wrong?;) xx

Those coloured beads reminded me of the 80's! I had a lot of them - I too had all the nautical colours! No idea where any of them went though which is a shame! I used to wear them with my ra-ra skirts!

I seem to remember a mink brooch in my dim distant past - not sure who it belonged to though. I've only got pennies and halfpennies in my drawer - with may be the odd thruppenny bit.
Love from Mum

My daughter's milk teeth and lots of pretty much unworn jewellery! I love it but can't wear anything without fiddling with it and either looking like a nervy wreck or breaking it, sending beads and so on spewing all around!

Hi Liz,
I loved seeing all your vintage jewellery! I have some of my mother's pieces too that I remember from my childhood. I love going through the jewellery box and stirring up memories.

Hope all is well xo

What a wonderful collection! I had a lot of red white and blue beads too, I think it was after the silver jubilee.

Dearest Liz,
Oh, how lovely to look into these jewelries. I love your story of your mother's brooch like others said. Mymother died year 2,000; I am the only daughter and have hers which makes me in tears sometime, haha.
And I still am keeping the cheap ones I bought when young(^^;)

Love you always from Japan, xoxo Miyako*
when my gramdmother died I found so many great things in her jewellery box and the button box too, they're great places to find forgotten treasures. Definitely wear the mink
