Love the 70s hairstyles and kitchen decor. Look at those dreadful mustard tiles.
Lots of recipes for children to follow, including how to
make that old favourite a cheese and pineapple hedgehog. I made one of these recently with cheese,
pickled onions, spam and cubed pineapple and everyone loved it! Sometimes you can't beat the old favourites!
Of course, being a Ladybird Book, it had some top tips for
cooking.
Love, Liz

fab pictures and sage advice!! Funny enough I made a couple of cheese and pineapple hedgehogs for my daughter's birthday party a few weeks ago and they went down a storm! x
Fantastic. I still love a cheese and pineapple hedgehog. X
hello Liz
I still make cheese and pineapple hedgehogs and my Spanish friends think they are so different...if only they knew!!! One day I'll tell them it wasn't my brilliant idea!!
Ladybird book old and new are the best. I still use an old Ladybird book to remind me of punctuation rules!
keep well
Amanda x
Fabulous book isn't it? One that I haven't got (I think) in my rather massive collection! MMmm, I love cheese and pineapple sticks. xx
I still serve them - retro all the day! x
Oh I remember them and the egg and onion sandwiches which were wheeled out to all occasions from births to funerals.
Ah, the 70s. There were some interesting adventures in party food for the grown ups, as I recall. Who ever thought that cocktail onions and mature cheddar was a good thing to be eating when talking to people? It took a fair bit of Ouzo to get rid of that odour!
I love the kitchencraft tips for the kiddies. Helpful advice that hasn't changed. :)
Thanks for sharing.
Ooh I have got that book! I love those 70's illustrations. I well remember those hedgehogs, no party would have been the same without one!
That ginger kid looks the spitting image of my friend when she was young!!! Ah, I love the cheese and pineapple hedgehog!!!!! How exciting was party food in the 70's (and 80'!)X
Nothing wrong with cheese and pineapple, hedgehoged or not!! xx
I really enjoy looking in vintage books like that
I like to look through the old Dick & Jane books remember them?
OK! I won't lick my fingers - but at 60, I'm too old to retrain myself NOT to lick the spoon when I've finished baking!
Better tell my cat to leave the kitchen before I get on with dinner! Priceless! :) x
Oh how wonderfully nostalgic! I made one not long ago too! Happy memories of chilhood birthday parties. No trips to the cimena, bowling etc, just a very nice tea with jelly and ice cream, pass the parcel and musical statues!
It's the illustrations that do it for me! All those children clamouring for a piece of hedgehog, having obviously washed their hands and put their pets out the room first!
I love old books and the advice they give. One I read recently was suggesting appropriate chores for 4 year olds, one of which was "polish the doorknobs" !
You know what? I saw an old replay of Fanny Craddock the other evening and stepped back into nostalgia so much that I made a cheese and pineapple hedgehog!!!! And it was delicious (nightmares in the evening though) :-)
These were at ALL the best parties.....my girls think they are hilarious, but what do they know! :) x
Oh my goodness, what memories! We used to have this book when I was wee and I loved looking at the pictures though I don't remember actually making anything from it. What a lovely jolt to my memory although I'm sad that we don't have it anymore.
