Little Nest

I found this little nest just lying on the pavement when I was out for a walk.  It is so perfect and looks really cosy.  Must have taken ages to make.

There was a tree on one side and a large hedge on the other - I didn't know where it belonged.  Fortunately there were no little eggs in it.  Does anyone know what kind of bird would have built this?

It is exquisite, Liz. I love finding disused nests. We've had two here and they are just so pretty. I never knew what birds had created mine either. I just treasure them because if the work-birdship with which they were created.

I am amazed always at the skill and dexterity of just using a beak to build. I wonder if it is a robin or a bluetit, something tiny, or even a wren, if you have them locally. Love the way she has made it so soft and cosy.

It does look very cozy. Did you bring it home with you?

Hi Liz
What a sweet find. There was one very similar in my garden a couple of years ago that belonged to a wren. The male wren makes a few nests to impress his partner - but SHE chooses which nest to lay eggs in. Seems like the right way to me!
Best wishes

What a wonderful find for you, but such a pity for the bird who lost it!
