I actually remember this - the dress had a sticky-out
petticoat and was white with blue flowers.
The coat was a light fabric and was blue with white edging. White ankle socks and sandals were
obligatory!

My Easter Bonnet
When I was a little girl, I got a new outfit for church on
Easter Sunday. That outfit was
"best" for the rest of the summer and I would wear it to church and
Sunday school and to special family occasions.
This is my Easter outfit from when I was about five or six.
Look at the hat and bag!
I think I even had white gloves!
There used to be an old saying in Greenock about children who were well
dressed - "her Mammy keeps her nice" - well, on reflection, I think
that my Mum did "keep me nice".
I wonder how long I looked so perfect after this photo was taken?

Happy Easter, Liz! Love this photo. My Nana made my 'church dresses' or my sister and I matched with Marks and Spencer outfits in different colours. Old habits die hard though, I still dress 'up' to go to church!

Oh, I remember those days! In my native Yorkshire people said 'She's nice kept child... all credit to her mother!'
I wore the dreaded gloves too - plain white cotton ones with mother-of-pearl buttons in the 50s and pink, blue or white ones crocheted in some kind of stretch thread came into fashion in the 60s when I was about 6 or 7. I don't know which were worse! The white ones were always too long in the fingers for me so I dropped things and the crocheted ones left a sort of fishnet design embedded in the backs of my hands.
I loved the bonnets though and always had a new basket to match.
You were adorable in your Easter outfit. We would get new outfits as well and the outfit included white gloves that were very dirty by the end of church. Happy Easter!

Oh Liz. How adorable. Yep, our mammies tried but by the end of the day, if you were like me, hat askew, grass stained knees, one glove missing, chocolate mustache. Happy Spring my Friend!

Love this sweet little photo! I just love the look of the kids fashions from back then. I always liked to keep my kids looking nice when they were small too, it made me feel good to have my kids clean and clothes in good repair! My dad (from UK) used to go on about how he and his cousins would always get a new Easter outfit ... oddly enough, he never bothered putting out the money to outfit us as kids the same way. Wendy x

Such sweet memories, Liz - you look the perfect Angel in your Easter outfit! I remember a similar one, my dress had lavender flowers with smocking and I wore it all year to 'special occasions'. I had the little white gloves, too. I always managed to lose one, though. xo Karen
