This large Viking sculpture is new and was put in place last
year to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the Battle of Largs which took
place here in 1263 between the Scots and the Vikings. Largs hosts a Viking Festival every year -
you can read all about it here.
Made of galvanized steel by David Ogilvie Engineering of
Kilmarnock, the sculpture is 16 feet (5 metres) tall. He's called Magnus and can be found right
across the street from the famous Nardini Cafe.
Love, Liz

What a very imposing character! Glad you enjoyed a nice day out.
Looks like a great place to visit :) x
wow, I just think it is amazing that 750-year-old battles are still being commemorated! Magnus must be even more impressive when one is standing in front of him.
On the photos the sculpture doesn't look that large - 5 m! This one is a very impressive Viking.
How fascinating to walk on land that has so much history.
The statue looks very impressive and it sounds like a great place to visit. x
Magnus is wonderful!. Thank you for showing him to us. We had a very happy holiday in Largs a long time ago. The man who owned the b & b was called Gordon, and he did a highland dance while we ate our breakfast!!
Magnus is a very impressive sight! xxx
Magnus looks an impressive figure. I'm now intrigued by the battle of Largs and am off to read up more on it now!

Anyone interested in the Viking Festival should keep an eye on our website here http://www.largsvikingfestival.com/
Magnus, I think, has quite a benign face, and I can't picture him pillaging! Love the Art Deco front of Nardini's!
