Delicately Pretty

I found these in a charity shop yesterday -

Four little fabric 11 " squares - I think they are probably handkerchiefs. I have a feeling that they are vintage.  They are not cotton, but I'm not sure what sort of fabric they are - they are very thin and feel quite silky, but ... hmm!  Any suggestions?

Three of them have the most beautiful patterns and colours.

But my favourite is this one - a souvenir from the Channel Islands with lots of little scenic pictures.

They were only 20p each, and I absolutely love them - so ladylike and delicate!

Love, Liz

They are gorgeous Liz. Love the Channel Isles one too. I bought a french souvenir hanky on our trip to Lyme Regis, I think I paid 30 pounds, so that is a great buy.

They are probably silk or rayon. Very pretty. I love old hankies.

I love the souvenir hanky too Liz. I bet the others are Italian. I bought a box full of at a fete a couple of years ago. They look very similar and are made of silk. I think they date from the 70's. Are you going to make anything with yours?

I really don't know what I am going to do with them. Part of a cushion, perhaps? What would you do with them?

They are so sweet. There are lots of vintage hanky ideas on Pinterest and I've seen lovely bunting made from them.

They are really pretty. I would go for cushions. That way you don't have to cut into them which would be a tragedy.

Ooh, pretties. Could they be a polycotton? A lot of old printed hankies were, my Mum has a heap of them.

They are so beautiful, Liz. I know exactly the fabric you mean, a thin, almost gauzy material - silk, perhaps?
