This is the ruined West Parish Church at Culross in Fife, Scotland. It is believed to date from the early 16th century. It was already in a run-down state by 1633.
It is very atmospheric and is surrounded by a graveyard with many very old gravestones in it.
Some old grave slabs were used in later building work. This stone depicting an axe and sword has been used as a lintel over a doorway.
Another lintel is a grave slab with a very decorative key inscribed on it.
It is an amazing place to visit and was used as a location in Outlander as the Black Kirk.
Check out some more churches old and new at InSPIREd Sunday.

must be 40 years since I visited Culross. Amazing that gravestones could be used as building material.
Beautiful ruins, thank you for showing us.
What a wonderful little church. I'm sure it's very atmospheric, set in such an isolated location and being such a wreck: not sure I'd want to be there in the dead of night. I love the old tombstones, especially the one you've captured with the skull: very macabre. Great post! All the best, Bonny
What a wonderful place, so beautiful and atmospheric. xx
Liz, even as a ruin, it's lovely! Tom The Backroads Traveller

This is such a lovely place with so much history. I just discovered your blog and I'm signing up to follow as I too love crochet and history. Sending you greetings from California, Pat
Great use for the old gravestones! And I've been wondering about some of the locations in Outlander.....!
What a beautiful location - the green "taking over" the walls of the original structure makes me feel like nature is claiming its territory...
I wonder why it was abandoned after such a short history. It looks like the graveyard was well used.
