The town even has its own brewery - Sulwath Brewers. Of course we had to sample the beer and the
verdict was ... fabulous! Brought some
home as a gift for a friend.
Definitely planning a return visit to Castle Douglas!

Castle Douglas looks a great place to visit, still retaining proper independent shops. So rare these days, when so many high streets have the same old mix of chain shops wherever you are.
My home town in Kent is a classic example. In my childhood it was a thriving, classic market town, with cattle market and ordinary market, boasted two large department stores on several levels, a high street full of interesting shops, three cinemas, a theatre and a skating rink.
Now we have no theatre, no cinema, a high street full of discount/ pound shops, building societies, hairdressers and the usual chain stores.
The only decent shop we have had new in the last 10 years (Bentalls)is to close to allow the attached supermarket to expand.
Progress? I don't think so!
Whoops, sorry Liz, had a little rant then!

I so agree with you Gill! Everywhere just looks the same these days, so it is such a pleasure to visit a lovely town like this.

Sounds like a lovely place and I do hope it stays as it is. We have the usual 'same old modern' shops around here but there is a part of Lichfield City that remains independent and is wonderful to visit, and only 10 mins away by train! x
Vintage fairs and food markets ... I think I like the sound of Castle Douglas!
Sounds like a lovely place to visit. Neither the Mr or I have ever visited Scotland and we keep meaning to remedy that! Soon hopefully ... M x
Never been here but looks wonderful!

Wow Liz what a wonderful weekend, the vintage fair looks wonderful and Castle Douglas sounds like a place I'd like to visit. Sarah x
Looks lovely, my Scottish experience only amounts to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Oban, Mull, Iona and Staffa. Would love to explore ore.
